The name Coastal refers to a configuration of the marine border, a mountain that bends toward the sea. The beach is divided into two by stones. The first has as a mark the Capela de São José e Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, and the second proceeds until the foot of Morro do Céu. It is a beach of clear and serene waters, of regular depth and soft declivity. It has adequate characteristics for the entrance and exit of ships.
On the north side, the main area of cultivation of oysters constituted the called "oysterfarms", being one of the largest areas of mariculture of Santa Catarina Island. The mariculture, stimulated the gastronomy of the area and many tourists seek it to savor its typical plates.
There are many constructions from the end of the XVIII century throughout the beach and some of them are listed by the Historical and Cultural Patrimony. Praia da Costeira do Ribeirão Beach belongs to Ribeirão da Ilha District of, 30km far from Florianópolis downtown. It is 1.350 meters long and its width varies from 3 to 18 meters.
